With diagnosis in early infancy—which is becoming more and more feasible as additional manifestations of the disease process are uncovered—it is now possible to achieve survival into adulthood for many patients. The pancreatic aspect of the disease has been brought virtually under control, and even the pulmonary complications, now the more likely to prove lethal, can be successfully managed for many years.
