Enough has been learned about the predisposing socioeconomic factors to permit identification of the population at high risk, and, if we are willing to pay the cost, to reduce significantly the incidence of this condition. So far as the individual patient is concerned, several measures are available to help manage the threat of premature rupture, but the potential for prevention is at best limited.
