AbstractThis paper discusses the optimization of the active‐passive composite tuned mass damper which was recently proposed by the authors for the purpose of reducing response vibrations of building structures subjected to disturbance excitations such as wind pressures or earthquakes. The parameter optimization, control force reduction, control energy minimization are discussed under several different types of excitations.
