The paper reports the UNESCO Workshop on Marine Science Microcomputer Database Development held in Jakarta in November 1986 and attended by participants and observers from five countries. The aim was to investigate the requirements for database development relating to the marine environment, with particular reference to the developing countries in the S.E. Asia region.
