For clinicians, there are a number of important reasons for a“second look”at these often lethal organisms. These include recent improvements in means of isolation, taxonomic reordering of some important pathogenic species, and the actual or impending introduction of newer antimicrobials to cover gaps in the anaerobic spectrum.
