The soils along the projected high-power line from Nea to Enefors, across the Swedish-Norwegian boundary at 63° N, have developed by weathering of rocks rich in nutrients. One would therefore expect the occurrence of fertile soils. None the less the soils are throughout very low in nutrient salts, owing to intense leaching. They are, indeed, the poorest of all soils that the author has subjected to solution resistivity measurements (about 50,000 soil samples from various parts of Sweden).
