摘要:
Ten physically disabled children participated in a four-week physical education program devised by six graduate nursing students. Breathing exercises, swimming, competitive sports, and music classes were included in the activities. Various preprogram and postprogram measurements were obtained on each child in order to detect any significant improvements. Due to the short time period, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and weight did not change; however, expiratory effort did improve significantly—from a mean rate of 81.8 liters/min before the program to 115.4 liters/min after the program. We believe that further research into the physiologic effects of exercise on disabled children may reveal definite benefits in terms of cardiovascular and respiratory function.
