A uniform rectangular plate is arranged so that it oscillates in its own plane around either one of two axes, one at the center of each edge. The analysis shows that there is a particular ratio of the lengths of the two sides (in addition to unity) for which the two periods are equal, and still another ratio giving the minimum period. These computations check satisfactorily by experiment.
