A calorimetric method for measuring ultrasonic intensities is described. By the use of agar, the formation of standing waves and the disturbance of the ultrasonic field being measured is avoided. Intensities in a small area can be measured, making it possible to get valid readings of peak intensities in a large nonuniform ultrasonic field.
