The selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), escitalopram [S-citalopram; 'Lexapro', 'Cipralex'], is effective in the treatment of generalised and social anxiety disorders, and panic disorder, according to results from three studies presented at the 22nd Annual Meeting of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA) [Austin, US; March 2002]. In separate studies, escitalopram was shown to significantly improve disease-related scores, relative to baseline values and compared with placebo-treated patients.1
