In brief:Meniscectomy is being reassessed in light of recent evidence showing the important contributions of the meniscus to knee joint function. Tears requiring surgery are probably best treated by partial meniscectomy or reattachment to diminish the long-term radiological and clinical sequelae associated with total meniscectomy.
