In fact, most of those methods act by enlarging the normally existing intercoronary anastomosis, this as a result of a mechanical irritation of the heart surface.Such a result can be easily obtained by a minor operation, i.e. the introduction of talcum powder into the pericardium.The ligation of the mammary arteries is an equally minor operation, which may be performed even on poor risk patients. Its effectiveness is far from being demonstrated experimentally, whereas clinical records seem to be more promising. Further attempts should therefore be justified.
