Mr. President: The Committee on Award of the WILLIAM BOWIE MEDAL has selected a meteorologist for the 1945 award, and I have been asked to present to you the name of Dr. JAKOB BJERKNES, Head of the Department of Meteorology, University of California in Los Angeles, as the seventh recipient and the first meteorologist to be awarded the WILLIAM BOWIE MEDAL. He has been duly elected by the Committee in accordance with the terms of the award. The exigencies of war prevent him from being present at this meeting of the American Geophysical Union.
