Children in greater numbers are being sent home from the hospital on low-flow oxygen therapy. Positive aspects of discharging children including the decreased cost, the normal home environment, and increased socialization are discussed. Criteria for discharge and a plan and guide for discharge teaching are also included in this article. Discharging children on oxygen is discussed as a viable alternative to prolonged hospitalization.
