ABSTRACTCataract, the leading cause of blindness in the United States, chiefly affects the elderly. Surgical therapy in the 1920's is contrasted with that in the 1970's. Visual corrections with spectacles, contact lenses, and intraocular lenses are discussed. Intraocular lens implantation, when performed by specially trained surgeons, offers cataract patients prompt and complete visual rehabilitation.
