The elastic deformation of the links of a metal machining system leads to surface profiles which are often different from the desired shape. The analysis presented here is concerned with the machining accuracy attainable in turning for different head- and tail-stock compliances. The point of maximum departure from the ideal shape has been predicted analytically. Under the given conditions this has been found to depend upon the work length.
