摘要:

DICTIONARY OF SUBSTANCES AND THEIR EFFECTS Dictionary of Substances and their Effects (DOSE) is a new, unique, user-friendly guide to 5,000 chemicals and the impact they have on life forms and the environment across the globe. Compiled with the aid of official lists from the EC, UK, USA and Canada, DOSE is being published in seven alphabetical volumes, which will be completed in 1994. Each volume contains an index of chemical names, CAS registry numbers and molecular formulae, as well as a glossary of biological organisms. A separate volume containing cumulative indices of all volumes will be published after Volume 7. DOSE LISTS EACH CHEMICAL'S: IDENTIFIERS USES OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE ECO TOXIC1 TY STATUS IN LEGISLATION WORLDWIDE MAMMA LlAN TOXICITY EFFECTS ON SEWAGE WORKS PROCESSES PHYSICAL PROPERTIES DOSE enables the user to make rapid hazard assessments of chemicals, facilitating risk assessment and further action.Such a store of information is of critical importance to scientists, environmentalists, industry professionals, regulators and researchers -indeed anyone affected by or concerned about chemicals and their potential effects on the environment the world over. Benkreira, The University of Bradford Thin Film Coating reviews important new work in the fluid mechanics of coating flows (prediction and correlation of film thickness and quality with operating conditions), the rheology of coatin suspensions (and its effect on coating performance), drying, and solvent recovery in coating processes. It is written by world experts in the feld and gives an update on the many advances made in the subject, both in academic research and in industrial development. The im ortance of coatin technology is well known yet it remains a fragmented field, where a variet of coatin methods and approaches have gee, created to soyve operational problems. This book acts as a platform for the exchange of deas and wfil encourage the search for a common, fundamental approach to tackling these problems. Meuser, Institute of Food and Fermentation Technology, Berlin, Germany D.J. Manners, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK W. Seibel, Federal Research Centre for Cereal Potato, and Lipid Research, Detmold and Munster, Germany This book presents an up to date account of current developments in plant polymeric carbohydrates and covers five main areas: their biosynthesis and structure; their rheological roperties; their nutritional importance; their industrial applications; and their chemical and enzymic conversion. It is written by experts [om around the world, many of whom come from industrial and government laboratories, and rovides both exceptionally wide and unusually detailed coverage of the subject. In addition it gives valuable references to the most recent Eterature and illustrates the latest research findings with a large number of figures. In addition, general aspects of pigment technology are reviewed. This book has an unusual breadth and depth ofcoverage and will appeal to both commercial and academic minds.Special Publication No. 133 Hard cover viii + 188 pages ISBN 0 85186 655 7 1993 Price f 39.50 Ref No 775 Organic Materials for Non-linear Optics III Edited by G.]. Ashwell, Universiw of Cranfield and D. Bloor, University of Durham Research has moved on in the quest for organic materials for non-linear optics and the third volume under this title gives an update on progress made since the previous volume was published in 1991. Orsanic Materials for Non-linear Optics Ill reflects the increased interest in olymer films for both second and third harmonic generation and includes a large number of papers dedicated to this topic. It also refLcts the im ortance of such materials in the fabrication of devices that do not require the time-consuming process of crystal growt or Langmuir-Bkdgett film fabrication. The book looks at electro-optic waveguide devices based on polymers that have been demonstrated to have potentially useful properties, and considers the significant impact they could have in the medium-term.
