Revascularization of diseased coronary arteries without open heart surgery is now possible by means of this new procedure, which utilizes arterial catheterization and balloon dilatation to relieve stenosis. Patients with a short history of severe, medically unresponsive angina and angiographically documented single-vessel disease appear to be the most suitable candidates.
