SummaryThe results of an experiment in a Department of Internal Medicine (UCL) with the logical structure proposed by Dr. Weed are reported, as well as some difficulties and opinions from the permanent staff.The problem oriented medical record appears mainly justified by its advantages in medical education, in providing easier access to relevant information from medical records, and in enabling better team work. The question of improving the quality of health care remains to be demonstrated.Subjective and interpretative aspects of the problem lists are underlined. It is proposed to include this list in the Belgian inter-university automated discharge summaries in order to facilitate evaluations in clinical work, and to add the problem structured logic to the traditional input of the data base.
