The first part will include work on electrothermal flame and hydride atomic absorption along with atomic emission and atomic fluorescence spectrometry. The second part will consist of two parallel sessions one devoted to electrother- mal atomic absorption spectrometry and the other to inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. Part I will be held at Universidad Simon Bolivar in Caracas and Part I1 will take place at the Margarita Hilton Hotel on the Venezuelan Island of Margar it a.Scope Part 1 November 6-9 The programme will include invited lectures (40 min) oral presentation of papers (20 min) and posters covering the following topics introduction of samples; instrumentation develop- ments; hydride techniques; analytical quality assurance; interference studies; application to environmental biologi- cal and industrial samples; speciation; sample treatment; solid and slurry sampling; and preconcentration. Additionally a course on the appli- cation of atomic spectroscopic tech- niques to environmental problems is scheduled for this part of the meeting. Posters will be given the same prom- inence as oral presentations.
