Summary and ConclusionsProfound anemia may be caused by hemorrhoids, and complaints referable to the anemia may be minimal. Before committing a patient to surgery, care should be taken to rule out other diseases. Arterial hemorrhoids probably represent arteriovenous fistulas and are frequently found in association with profound anemia.
