Probably no one had a greater influence upon English thought and literature during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries than Robert Grosseteste. It is proposed to celebrate the seven-hundredth anniversary of his death by reproducing a curious woodcut, portraying the reflection and refraction of light, which forms the title page of hisLibellus de Phisicis Lineis Angulis et Figuris(Nuremberg, 1503).
