To successfully compete with other services for scarce hospital funds, Child Life professionals must be able to demonstrate accountability through competent program evaluation In addition to the function of assessing the achievement of programs goals evaluation offers an opportunity to educate supervisory personnel by indicating (1) the value of the services offered, (2) the competence of Child Life personnel and their concern for quality, and (3) the need for additional hospital support Guidelines for conducting and submitting an evaluation and the relationship between evaluation and the promotion of Child Life goals are discussed.
