There are 585 poison control centers in the United States, many of them full-service facilities capable not only of handling emergencies but also of providing both physicians and the public with vital assistance. The importance of these centers to the primary physician is underscored by the plethora of misinformation and outdated information contained in the literature on poisons and antidotes.
