摘要:

SUMMARYThe standard gastro camera GT5 made by the Olympus Optical Co. provides us with a relatively inexpensive instrument enabling a series of high quality photographs to be easily taken of the whole of the inside of the stomach. In 60‐4% of cases totally satisfactory results are obtained. The majority of failures are due to mucus on the lens or the area in question not being included on the films. The latter applies especially to stomas. However, because the examination is usually well tolerated and takes but a few minutes it is no problem to repeat this if the required photographs have not been obtained. The gastroscope camera model GTF, also made by the Olympus Optical Co., produces photographs also of high quality. In the small series with this unit satisfactory photographs are produced in 74‐5% of cases. This higher percentage, compared to the GT5, is due to it not being used for lesions close to the cardio‐oesophageal opening and to it being the instrument of choice for showing stomas. It is more expensive than the GT5. Its real advantages over the GT5 are that stomas can be readily visualized and that as a gastroscope one can observe peristalsis which cannot be seen on static photographs. The GTF has considerable advantages over other types of gastroscopes. The two gastro cameras, GTF and GTS, are easy to use, and it is felt that diagnostic radiologists associated with busy gastroenterological units should undertake this work. The GT5 is the instrument of choice, in being able to photograph the whole of the stomach and being cheaper. Certainly it is an advantage to have the GTF also, especially for stomas, but one feels that the more experienced one becomes in using the GT5 the less use there would be for th
