The production of Bauschinger Charts for six spring steels has been described in an earlier paper. The present paper shows that for four of these steels a common Bauschinger Chart can be produced. This chart is then used to predict the effective modulus of rigidity for an overstrained bar subjected to torsion in the overstraining direction. Comparisons are made between the results of practical tests, an empirical law derived from the experimental results and the theoretical predictions.
