The use of polarized nuclei in small angle neutron scattering (SANS) experiments has been investigated in recent years. The feasibility of this alternative to the more traditional way of creating contrast by isotopic substitution has been demonstrated in various systems of polymers in solution. We will show results obtained with the spectrometer PAON at the LLB, a simple, low intensity instrument built specifically for these studies. We then describe briefly a new, more powerful small angle spectrometer, PAPOL, intended primarily for polarized neutron scattering on samples with polarized nuclei.
