This article follows Part 1 published in the Spring issue of Electronics Education and includes material from a sample SATIS 8-14 unit. The SATIS (Science & Technology in Society) project supplies teachers of GCSE and ‘A’ level science with excellent teaching support material. Initiated by the Association for Science Education, SATIS materials are sponsored and are aimed at putting science and technology into context. Many of these contexts are social, industrial, agricultural or in health and safety. The project has been extended to produce material for Key Stages 2 and 3 (8-14). SATIS does not provide ‘off-the-peg’ or ‘instant-handout’ material; rather, it offers teachers sources, ideas and tried techniques to enliven their own teaching with real examples and situations.SATIS materials are a shelf resource, photocopiable and flexible. Although they do not aim to deliver the National Curriculum for science and technology, they will enrich work in both. Units are lively and interactive; they stimulate group work and cooperation, and are applicable across the curriculum. Many teachers ‘cut and paste’ SATIS materials to suit their pupils. The units in SATIS 8-14 are presented in parts. Each part is a single activity and can be tackled alone or used to supplement other activities. The units have both radio/audiotape and television/videotape components and a SATIS disc, to enrich and extend the printed materials.
