摘要:

Although this article refers specifically to activities undertaken in the Midlands area, the initiatives discussed are implemented throughout the UK. The Neighbourhood Engineers scheme, which is organised by the Engineering Council, links three or four professional engineers and technicians with local secondary schools. Working in teams with teachers, Neighbourhood Engineers provide friendly, informal, practical and committed support to the daily life of the school. The scheme is currently operational in 15 areas throughout the UK, It will eventually involve 24 000 engineers working with all 6 000 secondary schools. Should you be interested in becoming involved in the Neighbourhood Engineers scheme, further information can be obtained from the Engineering Council, industry and Regions Directorate, 10 Maltravers Street, London WC2R 3ER.
