The paper reports the First Planning Meeting of the Regional Network on Information for S.E. Asia and the Pacific, held at UNESCO, Jakarta in June 1986 and attended by representatives of ten different countries. The purpose was to define the functions and structure of a Regional Informatics Network and to formulate a work plan. The meeting recommended that activities should be directed towards improving education and training in the application of informatics and agreed on a structure for the network.
