AbstractSeven‐year‐oldyoungsters from the University of Missouri at Columbia Laboratory School were subjects for the measurement of vital capacity, phonation air volume, maximum phonation time, and mean flow rate. The children phonated maximally into a respirometer. The group often boys was quite similar in most respects to the group of ten girls. Although certain clear differences were found, they did not achieve high significance with t‐tests. The smaller mean flow rate for the girls is discussed in the light of recent experimental fin
