SummaryThis study gives a survey of the clinical and serological manifestations of a group of 28 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. Almost three quarters of the patients were female and in more than 50 % of the cases the disease started with articular complaints. The latter were the most frequent clinical manifestation ; their overall incidence being 75 % ; definite articular deformities were however rare. Skin-and kidney involvement were among the other major clinical manifestations and occurred in more than 50 % of the cases. Cardiac and pleuropulmonary manifestations were present in about 30 % of the patients ; neuropsychiatric symptoms however were rare. The sedimentationrate, and gammaglobulins were disturbed in more than 90 %, whereas anemia and leucopenia occurred in 50 % of the cases. The clinical evolution varied considerably from patient to patient. Renal involvement and infectious complications were the most important causes of death.
