摘要:
AbstractPulp ofAnnona reticulatafruits yields about 19% starch. Purification of the crude products was achieved by treatment with sodium hydroxide to remove the other ingredients. The presence of starch was confirmed by treatment with amylolytic enzymes. Microscopic techniques were used to characterize the granular characteristics of the starch. Viscosity data of the purified starch indicate that the starch isolated from the pulp has paste characteristics comparable with those of corn starch. Results of the acid and enzymic hydrolysis of the fibrous material suggest the cellulosic nature of the residual material.

摘要:
AbstractThe adsorption of several iron compounds by unmodified and modified tapioca, corn and waxy maize starch was studied using transmission electron microscopy and atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Starch was incubated in an iron‐containing solution. After centrifugation the amount of iron remaining in solution was compared to the original concentration to determine the quantity bound by the starch. Only iron in the form of colloidal ferric chloride showed significant binding. Long, cigar shaped structures, probably β‐ferric oxyhydroxide crystals, were seen embedded in the surface of the granule. It is postulated that the oxygen and hydroxide groups surrounding the iron are responsible for binding to the carbohydrate. 摘要:
AbstractPossibilities for the Use of Ultra Filtration and Reverse Osmosis for Extraction and Processing of Soluble Constituents from Process Water in Starch Industries. The theoretical principles of ultra filtration and reversible osmosis are explained and the units which are in practical use are described (flat membrane units, hollow fibre units, and tubular membrane units). A comparison shows that tubular membrane units can be used successfully for the processing of process water in starch factories in view of reduction of water pollution and recovery of dissolved solids. Separation of organic substances from wheat flour extract and potato fruit water is done in similar way. COD (chemical oxygen demand) of the permeate is directly proportional to the COD of the concentrate. It is pointed out that application of membrane filtration for isothermal, selective and continuous separation of dissolved solids is restricted by the short life and low flux rate of the membranes.

AbstractIn processing potatoes, wheat, tapioca, maize or other raw materials containing starch, considerable amounts of valuable substances are unavoidably lost into the waste‐streams. The Symba process permits utilisation of these wastes. It converts starch and other carbohydrates intoCandidaandTorulayeast by the symbiotic growth of two yeasts,Endomycopsis fibuligerandCandida utilis, on these materials.Endomycopsisproduces the amylases which break down the starch into sugars.Candida utilisbeing unable to feed on starch, quickly “steals” the sugar, thereby growing and producing a yeast product which consists mainly ofCandida utilis. By this symbiotic action most of the carbohydrates in the starchy waste streams are utilised. The process could be applied for waste waters from the manufacture of many different products. 摘要:
AbstractCorn steep liquor (CSL) is considered an essential constituent in the penicillin inoculum and production media. In the present work, the inoculum medium containing CSL followed by synthetic medium (production medium from which CSL was deleted) of initial pH value 7.3 gave the same penicillin yield as that of the inoculum and production media containing CSL. On the other hand this method for penicillin production gave a bright fermentation broth and the penicillin recovery may be easier.
