摘要:
AbstractSome Volatile Compounds Formed During Gamma Irradiation of Corn Starch. Acetaldehyde, methanol, acetone, small amounts of methyl formate and various quantities of ethanol were found in60Co irradiated maize starch, using gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry.Influences of dose, temperature, atmosphere composition, water and impurities content, were investigated respectively for the first three substances.Irradiation effects were compared to heat treatment effects and concentration changes were followed during storage.

摘要:
AbstractResults showed that treatment of sweet potato starch with different doses of gamma irradiation caused increase in starch acidity and reducing sugars as well as molecular degradation, occurred as a result of the marked decrease in viscosity and intrinsic viscosity and water absorption while the solubility increased.

AbstractA new analytical method for the determination of α‐amylase in cereals and cereal products has been developed. The new method is based on the colorimetric measurement of the products released from a commercially available cross linked dye‐labelled starch substrate. This substrate is resistant to β‐amylase, but readily attacked by α‐amylase. The new method is quantitative, and measures cereal α‐amylase in milli International Enzyme Units. AbstractThe morphology of the polyethylene encapsulation shell, grown on potato starch granules was studied by electron and optical microscopy. It has the classical nascent polyethylene texture composed of the intertwinement of worm‐like, constant diameter polyethylene particles. A new feature is the occurrence of a large number of cracks which divide the polyethylene shell into blocks linked together by microfibrils. These cracks are caused by the curvature of the initial starch granules. They are responsible for the limited protection of the granule towards external chemical reagent

AbstractCrosslinked low‐amylose (0 or 28%) starch xanthates used as reinforcing materials in styrenebutadiene elastomer imparted better dry tensile properties than their high‐amylose (55, 68 or 82%) analogues. After immersion in water for 70h the tensile strength of low‐amylose starch reinforced vulcanizates deteriorated considerably while high‐amylose starch reinforced vulcanizates changed little or not at all. Such variables as xanthate degree of substitution and starch loading influenced curing time and properties. Mode of crosslinking the xanthate significantly affected retention of starch in the coprecipitate, and produced significant variations in curing characteristics, and in such properties as compression set, set at break before immersion in water and tensile strength after water immersion.
