Inositol is an essential part of every cell as a key ingredient for one of the membrane lipids, phosphatidylinositol. This article deals with one of the many recent inappropriate health claims for specific products (as distinguished from appropriate claims for entire diets) which followed the failure of the FDA to prosecute when illegal health claims first appeared. The FDA is now beginning to crack down on these claims, on the theory that “it isn't the truth if it isn't the whole truth.”
