摘要:
The purpose of this and a paper to appear in the next issue is to present an overview of the role of Ω-3 fatty acids in growth and development and in health and disease.Part I discusses w-3 fatty acid sources and metabolism, the elongation and desaturation of α-linolenic acid and the role of ω-3 fatty acids in pregnancy and fetal growth, human milk and infant feeding, childhood and aging. Part II consists of an overview of the subject as it relates to cardiovascular disease (hypolipidemic, anti-thrombotic and antihypertensive effects) and inflammation, immunology and cancer. Dietary implications conclude the paper.
