SummaryTwo cases are reported of Turner's syndrome in female patients. In addition, an account is given of a boy whose symptomatology highly suggests that he belongs pathogenetically to the same group. It is emphasized that therapeutic substitution therapy is definitely indicated in the cases of girls, though the pathogenesis is obscure. Further, it is pointed out that attention should be focused on testicular insufficiency in boys with a suspected Turner's syndrome, and that substitution therapy should be tried here, too.

SummaryWith the method of KREBS, the plasma glutamine and glutamic acid have been determined in 12 children without cerebral disorders, and in 25 children with cerebral diseases, particularly cerebral palsy and epilepsy, and also in 5 children with neuroses. Very great variations occur in the same individual at different times. The children with cerebral disorders show the same glutamic acid level as the controls, but their glutamine level was lower. However, the method is of no diagnostic value. Further studies in this field will be carried out.

SummaryThe author has compared a group of 121 prematurely born children (5 with a birth weight at the highest 1300 g) who recerived a large supply of oxygen, with another group of 44 prematures (2 with a birth weight at the highest 1300 g) who received oxygen to a very slight extent. In the first group, 2 cases of cicatricial retrolental fibroplasia developed, in the latter group none, while acute peripheral retinal changes of a more pronounced degree occurred among 33 and 4 children, respectively. No definite increase in mortality could be proved to occur among the children as a result of the more restricted use of oxygen.Very narrow vessels in different parts of the eye, together with pale papillae, were seen during the continuous use of oxygen, while dilated vessels and oedema of the fundus oculi certainly occurred more often in children who received oxygen, but these changes did occur also in other cases. In those cases dilated vessels were often seen immediately after birth, or in relation to a lowered general condition, especially if associated with infections.Oxygen administration is only to be recommended in cases of pronounced asphyxia: at the same time, the importance of a gradual withdrawal of oxygen and control examination of the fundus oculi is stressed in these cases.

Summary1. The plasma Na, K, CI and CO2levels were determined in 32 full‐term and 30 premature infants, from the 1st to the 7th day inclusive.2. The full‐term infants showed on the first day a slight acidosis which disappeared gradually in a few days. The other values were the same as in adults.3. The premature infants showed a normal Na and a slightly high K content, but they had a distinct hyperchloraemic acidosis, which remained stationary during the first week.4. The acidosis on the first day is ascribed to residual effects of an anaerobic metabolism in utero or during birth. The hyperchloraemic acidosis of the premature infants is ascribed to the physiological immaturity of the kidney with respect to the chloride clearance.5. SummaryIn order to find out whether breast milk feeding is superior to artificial foods for infants, one should first make sure that the groups for comparison are identical in all respects other than feeding: e.g., that one group does not get more careful nursing or better social surroundings than the other, that the supply of food is equally free or rationed in both groups, and that the risks of infection are the same. Such a comparison may best be carried out in a Children's Home where every other child is given collected breast milk, and the others artificial food, and where all the children are nursed together under equal risks of infection. SummaryDescription of a case, that of a 3 months old hoy, in which the clinical picture was that of septic fever, local abscesses (after injections), mild jaundice, hepatic enlargement, and signs of myocardial injury. The diagnosis could not be made during life. Necropsy and microscopical examination disclosed severe arteritic changes in several organs, particularly the coronary arteries and the arteries of the kidneys and suprarenal glands, where changes typical of p.n. were present. The lesions were partly of a chronic, sclerosing type (which might indicate that the disease set in during fetal life). Bacterial cultures post mortem gave a growth of pathogenic microorganism from various organs. Since the disease became manifest clinically, after vaccination against pertussis, this etiology is discussed as well.

Summary1. A case is described of megaloblastic anemia in a four months old breast fed infant, whose mother was suffering from pernicious anemia of pregnancy. The anemia responded promptly to vitamin B12. There was no further therapeutic effect from folic acid, a fact indicating that vitamin B]2was the missing factor in this case.
