A systematic control facility for MIS relies on the secure administration and use of confidential character strings known as passwords, user-IDs, and security codes. Although general semantic confusion surrounds these terms, senior management expects a data security function to maintain password security. The most common performance bottleneck in today's large-scale commercial computer systems is disk I/O. And the problem is worsening with each new generation of magnetic disk.
