摘要:
AbstractThis paper examines the demands made by the National Curriculum on the IT skills of primary teachers and concludes that these demands are, in the short term, quite impossible to meet. However, a longer term view examines the reasons why primary education is, potentially, a very fertile environment for the effective use of IT in education. The stumbling blocks to progress are shortages of resources; hardware, software, technical support and INSET. Suggestions are offered to overcome these, particularly the final two, in the current climate of financial constraint.

AbstractThere are still many institutions of higher education in the UK, both universities and polytechnics, that have not taken on board the application of information technology to foreign language learning. Apart from considerations of cost, there is also the problem of time—deciding how best to use the limited time at one's disposal for exploring computer applications to foreign language learning. Both problems may be compounded by the mistaken belief that effective use of this ‘new’ technology necessarily involves learning one or more programming languages. This paper endeavours to show that recent advances in both software and hardware have produced computing tools of particular interest to translation and the translator, and that, since translation is a reality for large numbers of undergraduates in the UK, such tools represent an obvious starting point for the introduction of IT into the undergraduate curri

摘要:
AbstractCurrent changes in the structure of British Art Education provide new opportunities for Information Technology to support the difficult task of teaching and evaluating. In the light of the 1988 Education Reform Act, this paper considers the use of microcomputers to develop visual sensitivity and skills. A test model is discussed which examines an experiential approach towards the teaching, evaluation and interpretation of colour theory.This is an interim report, the work is ongoing and no overriding conclusions have yet been made.

AbstractThe attitudes of 328 British Secondary School children towards computers were examined in a cross‐sectional survey. Measures of both general attitudes towards computers and affective reactions towards working with computers were examined in relation to the sex of the subject, courses studied (computer related/noncomputer related) and availability of a home computer. A differential pattern of results was observed. With respect to general attitudes towards computers, main effects were found for all three independent variables indicating that more favourable attitudes increased as a function of being male, doing computer courses and having a home computer. In contrast to this, affective reactions to working with computers was primarily related to doing computer courses, such that those doing computer courses reported more positive and less negative reactions.
