AbstractThis paper raises general issues about the way computer systems are developed and relates them to education, in particular the role of teachers in research into classroom applications. The views expressed arise from research into the use of wordprocessors in secondary schools. The broad framework of the research work undertaken has been the relationship between the introduction of computers, the perception of users and the conditions for genuine change in practice. Curriculum research is a necessary part of the process of change but it must address the practical context through those most directly involved in it. The introduction of computers across the curriculum has raised questions about their impact on learning and teaching. The key question is how teachers might be active participants in such a process. Using a simplified representation of the innovation process, issues are raised about the development and evaluation of computer systems, the context into which they are introduced, the people who use them and the interrelationship between those elements.

AbstractFollowing an initial survey of microcomputer use in Hertfordshire primary schools, a second, follow‐up survey was conducted two years later to examine how experience had changed attitudes and use. This second survey provided detailed information of microcomputer provision, classroom use, and an analysis of factors which were related to use. As before, the survey was in two parts: an initial questionnaire to collect information from both headteachers and teachers. Some changes were observed across surveys which suggested that teachers would make more innovative use of the microcomputer in the future given sufficient training. As before, children's access was limited, and they mostly used drill and practice‐type software in small groups (although child‐directed programs were becoming a little more popular). Both surveys indicated that microcomputers offered a focus for cooperative activity which had not been predicted. 摘要:
AbstractWhen computer programs are designed to elicit problem solving skills by the user, this basic premise should be tested in an objective manner. The Health and Fitness Assessment program was evaluated as an interactive program with a substantial emphasis on the problem solving process. A method of analysis known as protocol analysis was used to demonstrate that 72% of the interpretive statements made by users verified the use of higher level mental functions to interact with the computer. Other evaluative data aided in improving the design of the program.
