Sydney Chapman, Professor Emeritus of Oxford University, and now with the Geophysical Institute, University of Alaska; High Altitude Observatory, Boulder, Colorado; and Institute of Science and Technology, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, has been named the Twenty‐Fourth recipient of the William Bowie Medal. The award will be presented during the Forty‐Third Annual Meeting of the American Geophysical Union, April 26, 1962.This is a reminder of the Forty‐Third Annual Meeting which will be held on the dates noted. Technical sessions are scheduled for each day of the meeting, and a Smoker is planned for the evening of April 25, with the presentation of the William Bowie medal on the evening of the 26th. The meeting of the Council was called to order at 14h 10m in Room 3400 of the Engineering Building of the University of California, Los Angeles, California, by President Thomas F. Mai one. Council members present were William C. Ackermann, Robert S. Arthur (alternate for Donald W. Pritchard), Willis Poster, Edward D. Goldberg (alternate for Hatten S. Yoder, Jr.), David T. Griggs, J. Wallace Joyce, Joseph Kaplan, John Lyman, Thomas F. Malone, Morris Neiburger, James A. Peoples, Jr., Frank Press (alternate for Edward B. Espenshade, Jr.), A. Nelson Sayre, Louis B. Slichter, Waldo E. Smith, E. H. Vestine (also alternate for C. T. Elvey), and Charles A. Whitten.
