The recent exchange betweenRisbey et al. [1991a, b] and Schlesinger and Jiang [1991b, c]over whether or not our current scientific understanding of climate is sufficient to justify actions limiting greenhouse gas emissions is most welcome. This exchange was prompted by an earlier paper bySchlesinger and Jiang[1991a]. I would like to add the following comments to the debate:

Susan Colarullo and Dan Walker were each presented with a Horton Research Grant during the AGU 1992 Spring Meeting in Montreal, held from May 12 to 16. The research grant, which is separate from the Horton Award, supports research projects in hydrology and water resources by doctoral candidates in institutions of higher learning. It is awarded anually. The Horton Research Grant's objective is to foster graduate student research leading to the completion of doctoral dissertations.
