摘要:
The 1978 Horton Award was presented to Professor H. W. Shen by Hydrology Section President Leo R. Beard at the Fall AGU Meeting in San Francisco. Shen was selected by a committee consisting of John Bredehoeft, Chairman, Chao‐Lin Chiu, John Dracup, Willem Brutsaert, and James Wallis.Shen received his Ph.D. under the guidance of H. A. Einstein at Berkeley. He has published extensively during his 14 years at Colorado State University and has contributed significantly to basic research and to the transfer of knowledge between researchers and practicing engineers through the organization of several successful institutes and the publication of reference books. He has been a very prolific contributor in sedimentation. His basic contributions are in the application of stochastic processes to sediment transport and the application of fluid mechanics principles to flow resistance and scour around pier

摘要:
The Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory was the site of the AGU Chapman Conference on Magnetospheric Substorms, held October 9–13,1978, and convened by S.‐I. Akasofu.John Winckler led a group of the attendees in a climb to the ceremonial cave of a prehistoric Indian ruin at Bandelier National Monument. There they danced as the former dwellers of the pueblo had, perhaps as an impromptu evocation of a magnetospheric event. Other attendees enjoyed walking along trails among the aspen trees with full fall color under a crystal blue sky and a bright New Mexico sun. It was one of the afternoons that we had put aside for relaxation during a conference that was scheduled from 8:30 A.M. to 10:00 P.M. each
