摘要:
Daniel A. Valencio, Professor of Geophysics at Buenos Aires University, died on May 28, 1987, shortly before his 59th birthday. A pioneer of paleomagnetism and tectonophysics in Latin America, Valencio was an outstanding teacher and investigator in these disciplines. His original employment as an exploration geophysicist in Argentina and Cuba led him to become interested in solid Earth sciences in general in the 1960s. At that time, he laid the foundations of the Laboratory of Paleomagnetism at the Departamento de Ciencias Geologicas of Buenos Aires University. This facility has become a very active center of research and teaching, with emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach that includes the participation of an important group of pupils.

摘要:
A questionnaire was sent in October 1986 to all AGU Hydrology Section members who presented poster papers during the 1985 Spring, 1985 Fall, and 1986 Spring AGU meetings. The objective was to help assess the merit of poster sessions based on the experiences of recent contributors. The questions were designed to provide the authors' perspective on posters and to tell the program chairmen and Hydrology Section executive committee whether we should modify any of our policies toward poster papers. The questionnaire was sent to 66 authors; 45 were returned. Respondents had the option of remaining anonymous, but 80% chose to sign the completed forms. This report summarizes the results of the survey.

摘要:
This textbook describes the entire field of atmospheric physics for Earth and the planets, from surface levels to just below the magnetospheres. The protean talents of the authors have led to seven chapters: vertical structure of an atmosphere; hydrodynamics of atmospheres; chemistry and dynamics of Earth's stratosphere; planetary astronomy; ionospheres; airglows, auroras, and aeronomy; and finally, stability of planetary atmospheres. iDespite these encyclopedic contents, Aerothe book is never a mere compilation of disparate computer and observational results; simple scientific rationales and analysis are always given priority, without eliminating theoretical developments in the examples taken from planetary cases.

摘要:
The Pacific International Space Year (ISY) Conference was held on August 19–21, 1987, at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel located on the Kohala Coast of the Island of Hawaii. The meeting was cosponsored by the Aerospace Industries Association o f America, AGU, the American Institute o f Aeronautics and Astronautics, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the Institute of Electronics, Information, and Communications Engineering, the Japanese Rocket Society, the Planetary Society, and the U.S./ISY Association and was hosted by the University of Hawaii. It was attended by more than 140 people drawn from the scientific communities and space agencies of eight countries, together with representatives from a number of international organization

摘要:
The Sixth HYDROCOIN (Hydrologic Code Intercomparison Study) Workshop and Coordinating Meeting took place in Washington, D.C, May 26–29, 1987. HYDROCOIN is an international cooperative project for studying, developing, and intercomparing groundwater modeling strategies in the context of radioactive waste management. The workshop had 35 attendees from 10 countries and was hosted by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the U.S. Department of Energy. Its focus was the validation of groundwater flow models and the study of uncertainty and sensitivity analysis methods and technique

摘要:
The 1987 International Symposium on Erosion and Sedimentation in the Pacific Rim, held August 3–7, 1987, in Corvallis, Oreg., included a special session on the geomorphic and hydrologic dynamics of zero‐order drainage basins. “Zero‐order basin” is one of several terms used to describe unchanneled swales or hollows that may occupy considerable areas of higher‐order drainage basins. These basins serve as important accumulation sites for water, sediment, and accompanying contaminants that subsequently may enter streams. Moreover, in many terrains along the Pacific rim, zero‐order basins are significant geologic hazard sites in which rapid landslides and debris flows commonly begin. Widespread recognition o f the importance of zero‐order basins has occurred only within the last 15 years, and this special session was aimed at collecting and assessing some of the pertinent knowledge that has been
