摘要:
The spring mudflows triggered by melting winter snowpack that have proven disastrous in the past in the Wrightwood, California, area may be predictable a year or two before they occur, according to a new U.S. Geological Survey report. The USGS report notes that the recurring landslides and mudflows in the Wrightwood area appear to be part of a three‐stage cycle. Data collected during the past 12 years suggest that climatic and geologic conditions could be used to predict the occurrence of the spring mudflow stage in time to allow the application of mitigation measures and to warn local residents. Other types of mudflows caused by cloudburst or excessive rainfall also pose a hazard to Wrightwood but are less predictable and are not considered in this stud
