I see by the announcement in the April 1 issue (which I assume is no joke) that the all‐male AGU awards committees have upheld the traditions of their (male) colleagues of years past and once again ignored the contribution of our female colleagues in the presentation of awards. I do not question the qualifications of the awardees, but I do believe there are many of equal standing to those chosen and many of these equals are female. Could there be a selection bias in the nominating procedure? Are strong nominations being written for female candidates? Perhaps the awards committees should take an active role in ferreting out potential awardees so there is a more even mix of candidate
