摘要:
Three new visiting scientists are joining the National Science Foundation's Division of Earth Sciences. About half the division's program officers are usually employed under the agency's Visiting Scientist program on a temporary basis. These scientists, who are active researchers, continually inject fresh ideas and perspectives into the process of peer review on the merits of competing proposals. They also enhance the scientific and technical skills of NSF's regular professional staff.

摘要:
The sensitivity of the global climate system to the initial conditions via a statistical approach was studied by Tsonis [1991]. The philosophy behind this approach was to model a global temperature record with an optimum autoregressive model ]seeKatz, 1982[ and then to use this model to infer the average time that it takes for two records initially nearby to diverge significantly.

摘要:
Working Group 1.2 of the International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA) will hold its 11th Biennial Workshop on Electromagnetic Induction in the Earth, at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, from August 26 to September 2, 1992. Over 100 abstracts have been submitted for presentations in nine sessions focusing on topics of current interest in the induction field.Included is the session, “Distortion Effects in Magnetotellurics and Their Removal,” that will concentrate on attempts to retrieve structural conductivity information from data distorted by extreme local variations in measured regional electric fields. Such variations can be the source of static shift of apparent resistivity curves and can also twist and skew the electrical impedance tensor to mask details of regional conductivity struct
