NASA and a university research team are joining forces this month to mount what could become one of the most significant research missions ever undertaken to understand how volcanos affect the earth's atmosphere, weather, and climate, and their target is Mount St. Helens.The mission will use a NASA applications satellite, an aircraft crammed with the latest in laser and electronic remote—and near‐sensing technologies, and the expertise of scientists from two NASA centers—Langley Research Center, Hampton, Virginia, and Wallops Island Flight Center, Wallops Island, Virginia.
