摘要:
This article seeks a new strategy for magnetospheric research in an era of reduced funding. It appears here because Eos is the main communication forum of the space physics and aeronomy community. While readers from other AGU sections may find it somewhat technical they might also look at what is being attempted and consider whether a similar reevaluation would be appropriate for their own fields. Perhaps some already have ideas in that direction and might present them inEosin a similar format.

摘要:
The possible use of long‐range acoustic propagation as a tool for measuring oceanographic processes has tantalized the oceanographic community for 15 years. During this period a growing number of oceanographers joined teams to acoustically measure the fields of sound speed and water velocity (currents) on subocean‐basin scales and to infer from those measurements temperature, vorticity, and heat cont

摘要:
“One of the difficulties of studying ‘tsunami earthquakes’ is that they occur so rarely, and we've had to work with old data,” notes Kenji Satake of the Geological Survey of Japan. “We needed modern data. [Now] such an earthquake has occurred.”On February 21, 1996, at 12:51 GMT, a tsunami earthquake shook the ground and then stirred the waters along the coast of central Peru, near Chimbote. A tsunami, or seismic sea wave, that was 60 cm high in the Pacific crested at 5 m along the shore. The run‐up destroyed at least 50 houses with a series of waves well out of proportion to the seismic en
