摘要:
The international ocean drilling community plans to meet in July 1987 to decide on some of the scientific goals of the Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) for the next 5 years. An all‐day Union session is being held at the AGU Spring Meeting in Baltimore, Md., “to organize and energize the U.S. marine science community” in preparation for that meeting, according to session chairman Garrett Brass, of the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science at the University of Miami (Miami,

摘要:
Names are the symbols used in logic to designate items and to serve as addresses and structures to which information is related. However, in geohydrology, no widely accepted system for naming aquifers exists, and confusion has resulted. The confusion occurs in part because the few available guidelines are not widely known, and practicing geohydrologists may not be aware of or fully knowledgeable about those guidelines. In general, the inexactness and inaccuracy in naming aquifers probably occurs because of inexact or inaccurate definitions of an aquifer.

摘要:
The Chapman Conference on Rainfall Fields, sponsored by AGU, was the first of its kind; it was devoted to strengthening scientific interaction between the North American and Latin American geophysics communities. It was hosted by Universidad Simon Bolivar and Instituto Internacional de Estudios Avanzados, in Caracas, Venezuela, during March 24–27, 1986. A total of 36 scientists from Latin America, the United States, Canada, and Europe participated. The conference, which was convened by I. Rodriguez‐Iturbe (Universidad Simon Bolivar) and V. K. Gupta (University of Mississippi, University), brought together hydrologists, meteorologists, and mathematicians/statisticians in the name of enhancing an interdisciplinary focus on rainfall resea

摘要:
An international symposium on drainage basin sediment delivery was held in Albuquerque, N. Mex., August 4–8, 1986. The symposium was organized by the International Commission on Continental Erosion (of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences, or IAHS) in cooperation with the Department of Geology of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. The objectives of the symposium were, first, to examine the processes and mechanisms in the conveyance and storage of eroded material in drainage networks from upland slopes to stream channels, and second, to discuss the relationship between erosion and sediment delivery as it affects estimates of basin sediment yield and problems of scale in drainage basin studie
